Choosing Materials for the Kerala Climate

Choosing Materials for the Kerala Climate

The best material in Kerala is not the one that looks best in a showroom — it is the one that survives heat, humidity, and a twelve-year-old’s shoes.

Kerala is hard on finishes. Humidity works on every surface, the sun works on everything exposed, and the monsoon works on everything in between. The materials we specify are chosen with that reality first.

A few rules we design by

  • Stone and laterite age well and stay cool.
  • Teak and engineered timber beat cheaper wood that swells.
  • Ventilated roofs and ceilings matter more than any coating.
The cheapest finish is the one that does not need replacing.
